Aniva Lighthouse

One of the most powerful places on Sakhalin: a concrete tower on Sivuchya Rock near Cape Aniva, built in 1939. Currents, fog, and rocky shallows make the journey here tense and mesmerizing.

In this work, I wanted to convey the feeling of moving toward the very edge: at first, there is only the sea and the wind — and only then does the silhouette of the lighthouse appear through the fog. I photographed it through observation: the rhythm of moving water, pauses, the texture of concrete, and the sound of the space — so that the story would feel not like a tour, but like presence.

The result is a visual work about a place where human engineering meets the force of nature: austere, quiet, and deeply monumental.
